Largo Police Family Safety Day
LARGO – Largo Police Family Safety Day will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Largo Police Department, 201 Highland Ave.
The event will feature a station tour, SWAT display, bicycle safety rodeo, inflatables, a police vehicle display, food, music and more.
Also, thanks to a partnership between the LPD and Walmart, some children will go home with a new or reconditioned bicycle. Those who visit all safety areas will receive a ticket for a chance to win a reconditioned bike. Children who complete the bicycle safety rodeo will receive a ticket for a chance to win a new bike.

Rummage and Bake sale
LARGO – The Heisler-Johnson American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 119, is having its annual Rummage and Bake sale Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Legion is looking for items to be donated. No TVs. The items can be dropped off at the Heisler-Johnson American Legion, Post 119, at 130 1st Ave. SW. Sloppy Joe’s will be available.
Dementia resource seminar
LARGO – Ruth’s Promise will present Hometown Solutions for Navigating Dementia on Thursday, Nov. 15, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Missouri Ave. N.
Hometown Solutions for Navigating Dementia is a quarterly dementia resource seminar sponsored by Ruth’s Promise that provides the latest in community resources while having sponsors generate scholarship funds to add to a Senior Citizen Services grant. The seminar is free with refreshments and lunch provided. Respite care is available for those who RSVP early.
This seminar’s speakers will include Karen Keaton, Esq., America Living Will Registry; Margo Walbolt, Lutheran Intentional Village; Eoin Fitzpatrick, Holding Space for Self-Care; Daphni Tsongranis, Seasons Hospice; Dr. Cate, Engaging the Senses; and Erin Aaron, RN, Palms of Pasadena, ACE Unit.
Skyway Cat Club show
LARGO – The Skyway Cat Club of Tampa Bay will host The International Cat Association All-breed Cat Show on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17-18, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Minnreg Hall, 6340 126th Ave. N., Largo.
Cats will compete in 12 different rings both days. Judges from all around the world and the United States will evaluate cats both days. The event will include feline education and welfare. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about different breeds of cats and how to care for them.
The show will feature more than 25 breeds of cats. Vendors will have cat trees, cat beds, toys, unique gifts, and much more cat-related items for sale. Cats and kittens will be available for adoption from local shelters. There will be a raffle and food will be available for purchase.
Parking is free. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children and free for children age 5 and younger.
Event organizers will be collecting items for a local spay and neuter clinic. Attendees are encouraged to donate items such as blankets, bleach, paper towels, printing paper, tall kitchen trash bags, cleaning supplies, office supplies, baby wipes and cat and dog crates. Those who bring a can or dry cat food to donate will receive a $1 discount on admission.

Fun Fair and Carnival
LARGO – The 53rd annual family-friendly Fun Fair and Carnival will run Nov. 29 through Dec. 2 at St. Patrick’s Catholic School, 1501 Trotter Road, Largo.
This event will feature amusement rides, games for all ages, pictures with Santa, a variety of food options, beer garden, silent auction and raffle, weekend market place, alumni night and much more.
Largo Central Park

Veterans Day ceremony
LARGO – In honor of those who have served in the U.S. military, the city of Largo will host its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Largo Central Park on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m.
The ceremony at the Military Court of Honor will include a musical tribute, presentations and a keynote speaker.
Largo's Event Planning Committee, comprised of representatives from American Legion Post 119, the Korean War Veterans, the Disabled American Veterans Association, Avian Veteran Alliance, Serenity Funeral Home and Serenity Gardens, will also award the annual Barbara Bush Citizen Patriot Award, which recognizes a citizen who, in the spirit of the former first lady, has worked to help veterans.
The 2018 recipient is 11-year-old Alan Landers, who has organized the Superhero Fun Run for Heroes for the past six years to benefit Honor Flight of West Central Florida.

Genealogy Society Lecture Series
LARGO – The Pinellas Genealogy Society’s Lecture Series will continue Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m., when Annette Burke Lyttle gives two presentations at the Largo Public Library.
The first is titled “Our Quaker Ancestors: Their History and the Records They Left” and the second is “The Marriage of the Waters: The Erie Canal and the Opening of the Midwest.”
The event is free and open to the public and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a short break for lunch after the first presentation.
Lyttle has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a master’s degree in English and speaks at national, state and local events. She has been a full-time genealogist and family historian since 2012.
HUGS of Florida Family Fun Day
LARGO – The 14th annual HUGS of Florida Family Fun Day will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Largo Central Park.
The free event, which serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit, is a 1-mile walk around the park to promote the awareness of neurological conditions.
The day includes lunch, entertainment, games, and arts and crafts for families.
Largo Car Show
LARGO – Car lovers can cruise down to Central Park for the second Largo Car Show on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A variety of vehicles from all over Tampa Bay will be on display during the event presented by Pinellas Technical College. To add a spark to this year's event, electric vehicles also will be a part of the show, including free test drives.
Trophies will be awarded for the top 50 vehicles. Plus, there will be prizes, food and a silent auction with proceeds benefiting the city of Largo's Teen and Youth Athletics programs.

McGough Nature Park

Look Alive Bird Show
LARGO – The Look Alive Bird Show will be presented Sunday, Nov. 11, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Narrows Environmental Education Center.
Attendees will get a glimpse at the world of Florida’s fabulous flighted hunters. The show details the amazing adaptations that raptors use to exploit the natural world for their gain. The show includes owls, hawks, falcons and Sarge, the center’s own bald eagle and the star of the show.
Cost is $3 a person.
Turtle Trot 5K
LARGO – The eighth annual Turtle Trot 5K will take place Saturday, Nov. 10, 8 a.m.
The Turtle Trot is a measured 3.1-mile flat course that will take participants through McGough Nature Park, at 11901 146th St. N., and continues to Bonner Park’s well-kept trails, boardwalks and quiet neighborhood streets.
All pre-registered participants will receive an event T-shirt. Awards will be given to the overall male and female runners, overall master male and female, overall grand master and the top three finishers in each age group. Post-race refreshments and water will be available.
Both parks are located on the Intracoastal Waterway and have great boardwalks and piers for post-race relaxing. Bring the kids and feed the turtles from the observation deck.
Race fees are $20 pre-registered and $30 day of race but limited to the first 500 runners. All proceeds from the race will go towards supporting Largo Nature Parks. Soggy Doggy Splash Party
LARGO – The annual Soggy Doggy Splash Party will take place Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10-11, at the Highland Family Aquatic Center, 400 Highland Ave. NE, Largo.
Pet owners are invited to bring their dogs for a swim while they enjoy concessions from Splash’s Snack Bar. This is the final event of the season at Largo’s Highland Family Aquatic Center.
To encourage a happy and safe splash, different splash days and times are offered:
• Saturday, Nov 10, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Dogs less than 21 inches tall. Cost is $7 per dog (owners free).
• Saturday, Nov 10, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Dogs taller than 21 inches. Cost is $7 per dog (owners free).
• Sunday, Nov 11, noon to 3 p.m. – $5 per dog with Saturday token or $10 per dog without special token (owners free)
Owners will not be permitted to swim with the dogs, by order of the Pinellas County Health Department. Owners also will need to provide proof of the dog’s vaccinations for admission.
The water slides will not be open.

Holiday Arts and Craft Bazaar
LARGO – Get an early start to your holiday shopping and browse a variety of gifts at the Largo Community Center’s Holiday Arts and Crafts Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The craft fair, which is free to attend, will feature handmade arts, crafts and home décor made by local artists, including Christmas decorations, assorted crocheted and knitted items, photography, hand lotions and scrubs, and books written by local authors.
